Automatic Number Plate Detection and Recognition

An end-to-end ANPR system for detecting vehicles, localizing license plates, and recognizing plate text from surveillance feeds. Built for difficult real-world conditions such as noise, motion blur, low resolution, varying illumination, and partially obscured plates using deep learning and image processing for reliable Azerbaijani plate recognition.

Face Detection and Recognition

A robust surveillance-oriented face detection and recognition pipeline focused on low-resolution inputs. It filters false positives and partial faces, then performs recognition with discriminative embeddings stable across pose changes, orientation differences, and minor occlusions.

Sign Language Translation

An Azerbaijani Sign Language recognition initiative starting with dactyl fingerspelling and extending to broader translation tasks. It includes dedicated AzSL datasets, including 750 sentences by 20 actors, and supports robust recognition under real-world signing variation with recognition at Teknofest.

Medical Image Analysis

An AI-driven medical imaging project with clinical partners focused on breast cancer classification and segmentation and thyroid cancer diagnosis. It includes PACS integration, labeling workflows, and machine learning pipelines for diagnostic support and image analysis.

Research Structure

Each laboratory is organized into several project sections (sub-research areas), where every teacher or researcher leads a dedicated stream. These project sections represent ongoing research topics, active collaborations, and long-term development tracks connected to current industry and academic needs.

  • Lab-level direction with project-based specialization
  • Researcher-led sections with clear technical ownership
  • Continuous collaborations across internal and external partners

PhD Students

SITE currently has 5 PhD students actively contributing to research laboratories and project sections.
